Oral Presentations
The allotted time for oral presentations varies by type:
Selected Talks: 20 minutes (including 3 minutes for questions)
Keynote Talks: 30 minutes (including 5 minutes for questions)
Plenary Talks: 1 hour (including 15 minutes for questions)
No exceptions will be made to these time limits.
General Instructions
Format: Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx) is the preferred format. Notify the session chair in advance if using a different format.
File Transfer: Bring your presentation on a USB stick, clearly labeled with your name and session.
Submission: Submit your presentation to the session chair or volunteer in your presentation room before sessions begin each day.
Keynote & Plenary speakers on Monday are encouraged to submit presentations on Sunday evening.
Before Your Session:
Arrive at least 15 minutes early to meet the session chair, confirm scheduling, and ensure your file is loaded correctly.
Ensure your presentation is virus-free.
Support: Volunteers will be available in each session room for assistance.
Technical Requirements
Supported Software: All versions of PowerPoint are supported.
Fonts: Use fonts included with Microsoft Office 2016. If using custom fonts:
Embed them in your file, and
Include the font file on your USB stick.

Prezi Users: Submit a Portable Prezi version. Instructions here
Mac Users: Keynote files are not supported. Please convert to PowerPoint.
Aspect Ratio: Prepare slides in 16:9 format.
Media Guidelines
Video Clips:
Preferred format: WMV
Also accepted: MP4 (MPEG4 or H.264), MOV (H.264 or MPEG4)
Embed videos into your PowerPoint file.
Compress video files to reduce load time and preserve quality.
Images:
Avoid TIFF images in PowerPoint versions prior to 2008.
Use PNG or JPG formats to ensure compatibility.
Check your presentation in the Speakers’ Ready Room beforehand.
MOV Files (Apple):
PowerPoint 2010+ supports MOV playback (best with MPEG4 or H.264 codec).
For earlier versions, convert MOVs to WMV using QuickTime 7 Pro.
If you have multiple MOV files or cannot convert, bring video files separately and consult your session chair at least 24 hours in advance.
Poster Presentations
Poster sessions will take place during lunch and post-session slots. See the programme for exact timings.
Viewing Schedule:
Monday, 16 June: Theme AB
Tuesday, 17 June: Theme AC
Wednesday, 18 June: Theme BC
Posters will be displayed all day, with authors available for discussion on their designated day. Poster must be fixed to the boards with velcro fastenings only, these will be provided on the day.
Poster Guidelines
Size: Must not exceed A0 (841 × 1189 mm). Smaller sizes are acceptable but must remain legible.
Content Balance: Use images, graphs, and visuals to convey your research. Limit text to ¼–½ of the space.
Readability:
Minimum text size: 20 pt
Title font size: at least 70 pt
Header: Include title, name(s), and affiliation(s) at the top-center.

Note: All presenters must follow accessibility guidelines for colour blindness.
There will be no onsite printing at the conference venue but there are 2 print shops within a 10 - 15 minute walk of the conference venue The Edinburgh Copy Shop and Print Pixels.
